Welcome back Occucratists. We truly appreciate those of you who have become regular readers of our blog. If you’ve taken the time to read Our Story, then perhaps you’ve noticed our interests; Liberty, Ingenuity, Freedom, and Equality. It’s these interests that are at the center of what our party represents.

One step further

As you may already know, political issues are generally defined as dilemmas which are the subjects of political debate. These issues are at the forefront of discussions within political parties, nonetheless, our blogs have lacked in this regard. There are a number reasons why this has occur, but I would be incline to say that a portion of it is due to the difficulties I encountered while constructing a website that complimented our needs. Today, this is no longer an obstacle and I think this might be the perfect opportunity to move along with the content. So along we go and today, I’ll be visiting the topic of political issues.

Distinguishing the political

Do you know what originates a political issue? If the answer is no, this blog entry should be helpful to you. Not all issues are characterized as “political”, therefore, distinguishing between those which are political in nature and those which aren’t requires a closer look at the issue. Ask yourself: Is this issue debatable? Of course, there are other factors that play a role, such as the amount of attention surrounding it and how it impacts the society, but the differences in the beliefs of two or more groups is the foundation of what creates these issues.

Great Example: A classic example of a political issue is global warming. Why has global warming become a hot topic in political circles? The answer is simple; because there are people on one side whose beliefs and principles align with idea that global warming is a reality and on the other hand, there’s another side of the argument where people believe it’s simply false concept.

Not So Great Example: Homelessness however, is a terrible example of a political issue. Why? Well, it would be extremely difficult to encounter someone arguing in favor of it. Most if not all individual believe that homelessness should be eradicated. Therefore, this issue is one-sided and not an real debate. It is possible that how eliminate homelessness could become a political issue, but homelessness itself is best categorized as a social issue.

Issues are everywhere

Political issues can be found throughout the various levels of society. Some of those would include issues revolving around infrastructure (roads, bridges, etc.), the economy, government spending, and abortion. At some point, we all face the reality of choosing to side with a particular argument; especially when it affects us personally. There are even cases in which we’re force to re-think our stances on certain issues and adopt one we feel to be better for whatever reasons.

Example: Member A has always adhered to his belief that there should be a complete ban on the sale and use of marijuana. It’s only after the gathering of facts concerning the positive impact it has on certain illnesses that Member A begins to reformulate his stance on the issue. As you see in this example, Ingenuity has the enormous ability to reshape our opinions.

What’s your issue?

That about wraps up this entry. But before I sign off, I have one question: What issue is most important to you? I challenge you to ask yourself this question. To help further my challenge, I’ve created a list of “Things to Remember” as you try to answer it.
